Materiality and construction of sustainable buildings
A one-to-one experience
In May 2020 I have taken a part in academic workshop as a part of my Master’s Degree studies at Aalborg University. The aim of the workshop was to explore the properies and qualities of natural materials in building contemporary architecture.
The investigation began with life cycle assesment of different natural materials and comparing them to industrial equivalent. As the next step, we designed a unique wall construction based on wooden skeleton, straw and hemp insulation, and covered with traditional roofing material – reeds.
